Knees-Hugging Pavilion

Knees-Hugging Pavilion was reconstructed between the 14th and 19th years of the Guangxu reign (1888–1893 AD) by Cheng Wenbing, Military Governor of Hubei, on the original site of the Ploughing Pavilion erected earlier by Zhao Hong’en during his tenure as the Administrative Commissioner of Yunyang and Xiangyang.

Legend has it that a huge boulder once stood here. While residing in Longzhong, Zhuge Liang would sit on this rock in his spare time and recite Ballad of Liangfu, a folk tune from his hometown in Shandong. Through the ballad, he poured forth his longing for his hometown as well as his lofty aspirations.

Nestled amid lush greenery, the hexagonal pavilion features three tiers of upturned eaves with gracefully soaring corners, boasting an elegant and dignified shape. A wooden staircase inside leads visitors upstairs to enjoy panoramic views, offering a unique delightful experience.
