Scenic Introduction
Nestled deep in the Taihang Mountains on the border of Hebei and Shanxi provinces, Tianhe Mountain lies 65 kilometres from Xingtai downtown with easy access to transportation. Its main peak, Tianhe Ridge, stands at an altitude of 1,780 metres. The area features towering jagged peaks and deep secluded valleys. Waterfalls cascade all year round alongside gurgling clear springs. Boasting lush vegetation and excellent ecological conditions, the scenic area covers more than 20 square kilometres.
This place boasts profound cultural heritage. Human settlements existed here as early as the Neolithic Age. Confucius once travelled and studied here in the Spring and Autumn Period, hence the name Confucius Rock. The legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl has been widely passed down here, leaving numerous cultural relics. Many experts have verified that this is the birthplace of the timeless love tale. Registered with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, Tianhe Mountain is officially recognised as China’s sole Mountain of Love.
During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, it served as one of the major base areas of the Eighth Route Army. Revolutionary sites including the 129th Division Military Hospital and Southern Hebei Bank (the predecessor of the People’s Bank of China) have been well preserved to this day.
Shining brightly along the thousand-li Taihang Mountains, Tianhe Mountain is a newly developed pristine resort. Major attractions include Tianhe Lake, Galaxy Valley, Mohe Pool, Diexian Valley, Green Lotus Pool, Lovers’ Valley, Cowherd Village, Fairy Temple, Magpie Bridge and the Grassland on the Mountain Top. It is home to North China’s largest canyon drifting base, known as the No.1 Drift for Couples across China.
Tianhe Mountain — a mountain of love, a land of romance, a valley of joy and a fairyland on earth.
The Herringbone Waterfall and White Dragon Waterfall surge down like two dragons chasing a pearl. The Pearl Shimmer Waterfall and Yarn-Washing Waterfall sparkle like crystal beads and evoke the scene of Xi Shi washing silk. Clear water fills Crimson Pearl Pool, Pearl Pool, Big Dipper Pool and Yaoguang Pool, forming unique waterscapes exclusive to Tianhe Mountain. Fresh sweet spring water flows from Pearl Spring and Water-Dripping Cliff, keeping visitors lingering on and forgetting to leave.
The Nine Heavens Galaxy Scenic Zone earns the reputation of a water town south of the Yangtze River. Blessed with unique climate and abundant water resources, its deep gorges are perfect for watching waterfalls, exploring remote trails and catching fish and crabs. As a poem goes:
Dense forests wrap ancient quiet valleys,
Strange peaks and clear springs feed endless streams.
Who says no fairyland exists in mortal world?
Roam freely along the Nine Heavens Galaxy trail.
Tianhe Mountain earns its fame for spectacular peaks. A continuous stretch of wonderful ridges spreads across the whole scenic area, with the main peak reaching 1,780 metres above sea level. Standing atop the mountain, you gaze eastward into the layered rolling Taihang peaks, and westward over the boundless plains and chessboard-like farmlands of Shanxi. The magnificent view brings total relaxation, just as the ancient verse describes:
Standing on the summit, I overlook all mountains small beneath my feet.
When the North China Plain suffers from scorching summer heat, visitors can listen to the rustling pine woods and enjoy cool breezes, feeling as if they have travelled to the Bashang Plateau. It is a perfect summer mountain retreat.
The most breathtaking highlight is the Cloud Top Grassland. The endless lush meadows bring the pastoral northern scene: When the wind blows, grass bends low to reveal grazing cattle and sheep.
Dense forests cover the whole mountain, interspersed with quiet brooks, diverse waterfalls and fantastic rock peaks. Tianhe Mountain combines the delicate grace of southern Chinese water towns with the bold ruggedness of northern mountain regions.
Travellers can step across two provinces within one day and experience two totally different landscapes in a single trip.
As depicted in a couplet:
Three wonders of Tianhe: springs, mountains and valleys;
They outshine Huangshan, Taishan, Huashan and Emei.
Countless charms of clear springs: grace, steepness and marvels;
No other scenery can compare to this unique paradise.
This couplet vividly captures the true charm of Tianhe Mountain.
Based on traditional sightseeing tours, Tianhe Mountain has launched a series of experiential activities. It features North China’s longest high-altitude zip line and the largest camping tent site. Tourists can experience Mongolian customs on the grassland and Shanxi folk culture at Confucius Ridge on the Shanxi border.
The resort has developed targeted tourism products: Taihang adventure tours for young people, outdoor survival activities for children, and water-based leisure programmes for middle-aged and elderly visitors.
