Tai'erzhuang has long been a strategic military stronghold coveted by warring factions. It rose to global fame amid warfare and is hailed as a land where the Chinese nation displayed indomitable heroic spirit. Throughout history, more than 20 famous battles have unfolded on this land of less than 600 square kilometers, staging countless solemn and stirring war epics.
Tai'erzhuang War History Exhibition Hall stands on the north bank of the ancient Grand Canal, right in the heart of Tai'erzhuang urban area. Covering an area of 100 mu, the complex consists of the Heroes Square, War History Exhibition Halls, National Defense Education Park, Patriotic Glory Garden and Video Hall.
At the center of Heroes Square rises a 31.8-meter-high monument. Its front bears eight characters handwritten by Mao Zedong: Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs. The back is engraved with an epitaph composed by General Zhang Zhen, former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission. Flanking the monument are two fountains, each 50 meters long and 6 meters wide with water jets reaching 8 meters high, set against colorful flower beds. The entire square presents a solemn, serene, spacious and bright atmosphere.
The War History Exhibition Halls are divided into three sections: Ancient and Modern Warfare History, the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the Liberation War, and Heroic Figures. Precious historical materials and lifelike sculptures, paired with modern artistic presentation techniques, vividly recreate wartime scenes, offering visitors an immersive experience.
The National Defense Education Park displays weapons used by Chinese troops in wartime as well as models of advanced modern armaments. Visitors can learn military knowledge and receive national defense education while viewing the exhibits. The Patriotic Glory Garden features miniature replicas of ancient city gates, the Great Wall, moats and tomb sculptures. These symbolic structures embody the might of the motherland and the heroic mettle of the Chinese people, boasting a unique architectural style and elegant surroundings.
The Video Hall systematically presents the history of wars in Tai'erzhuang and the thriving prosperity of modern Tai'erzhuang by screening precious on-site war documentaries and interviews with veteran combatants. Interactive exhibits are also available inside the hall, allowing visitors to operate equipment personally and experience the thrill of battles firsthand.
Tai'erzhuang War History Exhibition Hall serves as a condensed chronicle of China’s military conflicts, a treasure trove of military knowledge and a gathering place for combat heroes. After visiting the hall, General Chi Haotian, former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defense, not only inscribed the venue’s name but also exclaimed: “Tai'erzhuang is an extraordinary land, a soil of heroes inhabited by heroic people.”
