The scenic area lies 24 kilometers north of downtown Laiwu. Two major highways, Laiwu-Mingshui Highway and Laiwu-Boshan Highway, run along the western and southern sides of the reservoir respectively. It takes a 20-minute drive south to reach central Laiwu, and a 50-minute drive north to Jinan, the provincial capital, granting highly convenient transportation. Direct public buses to Xueye are available from Laiwu Bus Station.

Located 25 kilometers north of Laiwu urban area, Xueye Lake, formerly known as Xueye Reservoir, was completed in 1985. As one of the large-scale reservoirs in Shandong Province, it covers a water surface of around 14 square kilometers. Since tourism development launched in 1993, Xueye Lake Scenic Area has grown into a popular tourist destination featuring lake fishing, boat cruises on the water, and the signature local delicacy "Xueye Fish Head Soup".

Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the lake boasts picturesque scenery blending clear waters and rolling hills. Ma'an Mountain to the east of the lake and Xuanyang Diaogu Mountain to the west have undergone preliminary development. The lake’s water conditions are ideal for freshwater fish breeding and angling. The Shandong Provincial Angling Association has hosted three consecutive fishing tournaments here, and the 13th National Angling Competition was held at the lake in the summer of 1997.

Boasting easy access with two major highways running alongside its shore, Xueye Lake sits on the vital transport route linking Laiwu and Jinan. A thriving lakeside service industry has emerged, with more than 30 hotels and restaurants of varying sizes built along the roads. Apart from tasting the famous Xueye fish head soup, visitors can enjoy boat sightseeing as the main water activity on the lake.
