Scenic Introduction
Dulu "Forest & Grassland" Scenic Area is situated in the northwest of Laiwu City, more than 40 kilometers away from the urban district. Located at the junction of Jinan, Laiwu and Tai’an, it boasts an average altitude of 600 to 800 meters and boasts abundant and distinctive tourism resources.
First, it is home to over 800 chestnut trees with huge crowns and advanced ages. The oldest trees date back more than a thousand years, featuring diverse and unique shapes. This rare ancient chestnut grove in the Qilu region has been verified by experts as a "Tang-Dynasty Chestnut Orchard".
Second, thousands of mu of Chinese zoysia grass grow on the mountain tops over 600 meters above sea level. The fine-quality grass, mixed with mountain pine trees, forms an extensive sparse forest grassland on the summits with a visual effect comparable to park lawns, hailed by specialists as "Mountain-top Grassland".
Third, the mountain teems with diverse flora and fauna, including nearly 100 plant species, close to 100 bird species and more than 20 other types of wild animals. The entire mountain presents a unique landscape: pines surging like waves, grass stretching like lawns, rocks rolling like clouds and twisted ancient trees standing sturdy. Lush forests, blue skies, white clouds, exotic trees and grotesque rocks combine to form spectacular scenery.
Fourth, mountain villages are built along mountain slopes in an orderly, layered layout with distinctive local styles, inhabited by simple and honest villagers — a typical settlement pattern in central Shandong’s mountainous regions. Farmlands, reservoirs, oak forests and chestnut orchards create a pleasant agricultural landscape, ideal for rural tourism and agricultural sightseeing.
The planned area of the whole scenic zone covers 20 square kilometers, consisting of three sub-areas: Mountain-top Grassland Scenic Area, Chestnut Grove Scenic Area and Rural Countryside Scenic Area.
Convenient transportation is available for the Forest & Grassland Tourist Zone, as the Tai’an-Mingshui Provincial Highway runs alongside the village. It leads south to Wangshimen "Paradise on Earth" Scenic Area, and northwest to Jinan Red Leaf Valley and Qixingtai Botanical Garden.
In recent years, the scenic area has completed 6 kilometers of internal roads, renovated 5,000 square meters of watercourses, planted over 100,000 trees, and built tourist service facilities including family inns and restaurants.
