Scenic Introduction
Fudi City lies 4 kilometers northwest of Chengguan Town, Yanshan County, Cangzhou. The city is square in shape, with a perimeter of 2.5 kilometers and a total area of approximately 310,000 square meters. Its city walls are made of rammed clay. The remaining parts of the wall base stand 4 to 5 meters above the ground and measure 7 to 13 meters in width.
Ancient historical records hold different views on the construction time and history of the city. Some records date it back to before the Han Dynasty. Others state that it was a garrison and fief of Gongsun Ao, Marquis of Heqizhui in the Han Dynasty, who stationed troops here to resist the Xiongnu.
Records of Changlu Salt Administration refers to the site as Fuyi City, built to defend against Tuoba Yilu, leader of the Xianbei Tuoba tribe. New Records of Yanshan County notes that "Fudi" is likely a phonetic distortion of "Fuyi". Based on this claim, the city was constructed in the Western Jin Dynasty.
Unearthed cultural relics include grey and red pottery wares, bronze arrowheads and ancient helmets. Fudi City is listed as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the Provincial Level.
