First built in the 5th year of the reign of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC), it was originally named Fuyang County. The city wall is now dilapidated, with only five sections of remnant walls remaining on the west and south sides.

Abundant cultural relics are also buried underground. The ancient town was once known as Lion City and Woliu City.
