It is a National 3A-level Tourist Attraction renowned at home and abroad for its long history, grand scale, distinctive layout and thriving pilgrim worship.
First built in the 11th year of the Kaihuang reign of the Sui Dynasty (591 AD), Dinghui Temple stands in the southeastern corner of ancient Rugao City. In the 35th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1607 AD), the Main Hall and Vajra Hall were reconstructed, and the temple gate was reoriented to face north. Later, the Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Scripture Repository, meditation halls, ancestral shrine hall and vegetarian dining hall were erected one after another.
The temple gate faces the Jade Belt River directly, with a Release Pond to its east and the Jade Lotus Pond to its southwest. The temple complex adopts a square-ring layout. Halls and buildings enclose the perimeter, while the main Buddha hall sits at the center, creating a unique scenic pattern of "water encircling the temple and buildings embracing the shrine hall".
