Water Wave Skylight • Hundred Birds Rock

Water Wave Skylight, also known as Hundred Birds Rock, lies at the foot of Mozhai Mountain in the northwest of Lietun, Jiazhuan Town. The Panyang River dives underground at White Bear Cave in Jitun and forms an underground stream stretching over 1,000 meters before emerging here. This is the last outlet of the Panyang River’s underground current before it flows into the Hongshui River.
The cave mouth is 50 meters wide, split by a stone wall into two roughly triangular entrances on the left and right. The left entrance measures 40 meters wide and 15 meters high, and the two openings connect with each other inside the cave. The cave extends 500 meters inward in winding curves, leading straight to a side opening under Lalai Col, separated from White Bear Cave by a single mountain ridge. The cave air is rich in negative oxygen ions. Staying quietly inside for merely three minutes calms all wandering thoughts and puts visitors into a restful, tranquil state.
The water surface inside the cave is as smooth as a mirror with unfathomable depths, around 40 meters wide at its broadest and 10 meters at its narrowest. About 300 meters by boat from the entrance at a bend, a circular skylight sits 30 meters above the water surface. Sunlight pours down onto the water like stage spotlights, shimmering with gorgeous hues. Countless branch passages spread throughout the cave like honeycombs, turning the whole cavern into an ornate, ever-changing labyrinth.
The journey through the cave features three bright sections alternating with three dark stretches, creating the sensation of passing three full days and nights. A British cave exploration team once sighed with admiration that exploring this cave feels like vanishing from the earth for three days and three nights. At the far end of the cave stands a massive rock with natural cracks forming the Chinese characters "Person, Person, Longevity".
A sandy beach near the right entrance serves as a boat docking area. To the right of the beach sits a stone platform covering over 30 square meters, pockmarked with deep gullies and shallow hollows. On one side of the platform, the snow-white cave wall is climbable. Lining both sides of the waterway are countless natural formations including stone eagles, stone pillars, stone curtains and a stone statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, presenting endless vivid shapes to admire.
Its stunning scenery rivals Reed Flute Cave in Guilin and the fairyland of Jiuzhaigou, earning it the nicknames "Reed Flute Cave on Water" and "Jiuzhaigou Inside a Cave".
