Cailou Site
Cailou Site lies south of Cailou Village, five li southeast of Huqiao Township. It is an earthen mound four metres above the ground, locally known as "Jiangren Mound", and ranks among the Eighteen Ancient Mounds of Xiayi.
The upper layer of the site consists of a group of Han Dynasty tombs. Two tombs decorated with Han pictorial stones were excavated here. The carved patterns include animal mask knockers, vermilion birds, interlocking cross rings, and twin dragons threading through jade discs. Hollow-brick tombs with concentric circle designs were also unearthed.
The lower layer is a cultural site dating back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, yielding pottery shards including the legs of Shang li cauldrons. Recent archaeological surveys have revealed Neolithic remains underneath the Shang-Zhou cultural strata.
Thanks to its good preservation and abundant relics, the site was designated a Provincial Key Cultural Relic Protection Unit by the People’s Government of Henan Province in 1989.
