The Legend of Lovers Valley
The valley gains its romantic name from a touching local Kazakh folk tale新疆托里县....
In ancient times, a wealthy local lord firmly opposed the love between his beautiful daughter and a young shepherd. The girl was locked up at home. On a stormy night, the brave shepherd rescued his beloved and fled together into this valley. Enraged, the lord sent servants to chase them. During the escape, the shepherd fell off the cliff and crawled painfully to the opposite mountain top, while the young lady was captured on the other peak. Separated by the deep valley, they wept facing each other till their last breath. Eventually, the two lovers transformed into two solitary pine trees standing on the opposing peaks respectively. Since then, local herdsmen have passed down this story, naming the valley Sulaxia Lovers Valley in memory of their faithful love.
