Minhu Lake is situated in Minhu Village, Banmian Township, Youxi County, Sanming City, Fujian Province. It is an artificial lake formed by the Jiemian Hydropower Station. Covering a water area of 36.7 square kilometres with a maximum width of 2.5 kilometres, it ranks first among all lakes in Fujian Province. Stretching endlessly with emerald waters, Minhu Lake in Youxi looks like a huge precious stone embedded in the heart of Fujian.

Centred on Minhu Lake and drawing on Youxi’s profound cultural heritage, Minhu Water Conservancy Scenic Area links various scenic spots together. It is an integrated tourist resort featuring water conservancy projects, hydrogeological sights, historical relics, mountain-and-river leisure resorts, as well as water sightseeing and recreational activities. Surrounded by rolling hills and charming waters, visitors can fully appreciate the exquisite natural scenery. Tortoise-and-Elephant Rock, Minxin Garden, fishing terraces and aquaculture bases are ideal places for relaxation. Newly added water activities such as yacht cruising and parasailing bring great fun to tourists. Now Minhu Lake has become a new highlight of aquatic eco-tourism in the county. Crowds of tourists from across the province and beyond keep pouring in during holidays and golden weeks.

In recent years, the county Party committee and government have attached great importance to the tourism development of Minhu Lake. In the Tourism Development Plan for Downtown Youxi and Master Plan for Tourist Zones in Youxi County, Fujian Province, Minhu Lake is positioned as a lake resort for sightseeing, water sports and leisure vacations. The planned layout follows the structure of "One Village, One Farmhouse, One Garden and Seven Zones":

On August 26, 2009, Minhu Lake was officially approved as a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area by the Ministry of Water Resources of the People's Republic of China. It is the second national-level water conservancy scenic area in Sanming City, following Taoyuan Cave in Yong’an
