Site of the Hongshilazi Anti-Japanese Base Area

On January 30, 1933, Yang Jingyu led his victorious troops back to Sanpenglazi Village and Dakang Mountain in western Panshi to rest and reorganize.
A puppet army regiment commanded by Japanese military commander Yuntiao (nicknamed Bietiao) marched north from the county seat via Guaizikang Village.
Another puppet regiment led by Liu, nicknamed Dongjianghao, advanced inward along the Boli River from Mingcheng, planning to encircle the base area of the South Manchurian Red Army Guerrillas. Faced with the massive enemy force, Yang Jingyu remained calm and composed while deploying troops for the battle.

Bullets Unearthed at Hongshilazi Mountain

On the morning of January 31, without firing a single shot, the Red Army captured 33 vanguard cavalry soldiers from Ma’s puppet regiment at Guaizikang Village, halting the regiment’s advance.
After that, the Red Army defeated the troops of Liu’s Dongjianghao Regiment stationed on Sanpenglazi Mountain, who were set to block the Red Army.
That night, after the Red Army joined other anti-Japanese armed forces on Hongshilazi Mountain, they were surrounded by more than 3,000 puppet soldiers.
After midnight, Yang Jingyu led the Red Army to fight their way out of the tight encirclement, shattering the enemy’s first fierce offensive.
Following the battle, the Propaganda Section of the Red Army issued leaflets featuring the great victory at Guaizikang.
