Laoye Ridge, the "Little Changbai Mountain"

As a national 4A-level scenic area, Laoye Ridge Scenic Area is situated in Henan Sub-district, Jiaohe City. It is 9 kilometres away from downtown Jiaohe and covers a total area of 1,226 hectares. Its main peak stands at an altitude of 1,284.7 metres, ranking as the highest mountain in Jilin Prefecture.

The forest vegetation here presents obvious vertical zonation, including broad-leaved forest, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest, coniferous forest, Erman’s birch forest and alpine meadow. Visitors can witness the successive changes of plant life from the foot to the summit, stretching for hundreds of kilometres. Hence the local saying: A trip to Laoye Ridge equals a visit to Changbai Mountain.

Major scenic spots include Golden Stone Beach, Stone Waterfall Valley, Red Leaf Slope, Thousand-Layer Cliff, Divine Turtle Watching the Sea, Five-Finger Peak, Exotic Stone Forest and alpine grassland. The main peak boasts over 70,000 square metres of alpine meadow, together with attractions such as Erman’s birch forest, Tai Chi Stone, Twin Heavenly Springs and Peach Banquet.

It is an ideal destination for leisure vacations, fitness recuperation and scientific investigation.
