Snow Mountain Lake

Snow Mountain Lake lies on the Songhua River within Liangjiang Town and came into being with the construction of the Liangjiang Hydropower Station, boasting a total storage capacity of 210 million cubic meters.

Why is it named Snow Mountain Lake? The novel Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain tells the tale of the heroic swordsman Hu Fei chivalrously upholding justice around Changbai Mountain. The Liangjiang Hydropower Station is just a short distance away from Changbai Mountain. Especially in winter, the whole area is wrapped in vast white snow, hence the name Snow Mountain Lake.

The Liangjiang Hydropower Station is currently the largest hydropower enterprise in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture. Focused primarily on power generation, it delivers comprehensive benefits including irrigation, flood control, aquaculture and tourism.

The dam of Snow Mountain Lake stands 55 meters high, with the water depth exceeding 50 meters. Tracing upstream from the dam, visitors are greeted by lush forests covering rugged, graceful mountain peaks. The lake rivals Jingpo Lake in beauty and outshines Songhua Lake, earning it the title of the No.1 Lake on the Songhua River.

The charm of Snow Mountain Lake resides in its serenity, tranquility, lush vegetation and gentle grace. Waters rest peacefully against mountains, while mountains seem alive mirrored in the water. Graceful pine trees stand alongside blooming wild flowers. Towering overlapping ridges form precipitous vistas, while misty wide waters create peaceful quiet scenes.

Numerous peninsulas of varying sizes dot the lake surface: some stretch straight toward the lake center, while others lie low along the shore. Yanglian Mountain City on the lakeside is an ancient mountain fortress easy to defend and advantageous for counterattacks, serving as a vital garrison fort on the Songhua River during the ancient Balhae Kingdom era
