National Donggou Wetland Hunting Reserve

The Donggou Wetland Tourist Zone covers more than 50,000 hectares. It is a natural hunting ground approved by the former Ministry of Forestry of China.

Within the zone lie 4,000 hectares of woodlands with swaying trees, vast grasslands, rolling gullies and boundless reed marshes. The Huolin River winds its way in the south, and the Tao'er River surges forward in the north. Bordering Niuxintaobao Reed Field in the west and the endless Jiangjiadian Grassland in the east, the whole area is teeming with vitality. Large numbers of rare birds and wild animals build nests and multiply here. There are 36 species of mammals belonging to 13 families and 6 orders, as well as 46 species of waterfowl from 12 families and 6 orders, accounting for over 44 percent of Jilin Province’s total wildlife species. Wild ducks, swans and red-crowned cranes dance gracefully in the air; pheasants, hares, foxes, roe deer and Mongolian gazelles wander through the woods.
