1. Songhua Ink Slabs & Songhua Strange Stones
Daan Town features a Songhua Stone Street with more than 120 shops. The area boasts high-quality and abundant Songhua stone resources. Old Pit by the Lake is one of the iconic producing areas of Songhua stones in Jilin Province. The renowned imperial Songhua ink slabs of the Qing Dynasty, as well as the artwork Bauhinia Bond presented by the Central People's Government to Hong Kong to mark its return in 1997, were all crafted from stones sourced here.
2. Manchu Paper-cutting & Torn Paper Art
Originating from ancient Shamanism, Manchu paper-cutting and torn paper art reflect the bold and unadorned traits of the Manchu people. They have become a splendid gem among China's traditional paper-cut art forms.
The county is home to Hou Yumei, who was named a Master of Folk Arts and Crafts by UNESCO, together with a group of outstanding Manchu artists including Zhang Jie, Liang Keyi, Qiu Yingjie and Jiang Guolin, forming a strong creative team. Manchu paper-cutting was inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in January 2008. In November of the same year, Tonghua County was awarded the title of Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture (Paper-cut Art) by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
3. Cloth Patchwork Paintings
Also known as cloth collage paintings, cloth patchwork art is a traditional folk art. Artworks are created by cutting and pasting various fabrics. Featuring innovative craftsmanship, exquisite visuals and great fun, the works present a distinct three-dimensional effect on flat surfaces. White is the most commonly used background color, while other hues are also adopted according to the thematic content.
4. Daquanyuan Liquor
Daquanyuan Liquor enjoys a long history and profound cultural heritage. As early as 1616, Nurhaci designated its distillery as an official royal workshop.
On May 31, 2007, the brewing technique of Daquanyuan Liquor was included in the First Batch of Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the People's Government of Jilin Province. On June 7, 2008, its traditional brewing craftsmanship was approved for the Second Batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the State Council. Baoquanyong Distillery is a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level, making the enterprise the only one in Jilin that holds both cultural heritage and cultural relic honors.
In March 2009, the large wooden wine storage vats of Daquanyuan were certified by the headquarters of Shanghai Great World Guinness Records as the largest number of wooden wine vats still in use to this day.
