Shoushan Lake Tourist Scenic Area
Shoushan Mountain was named by Emperor Kangxi. According to historical records, its original Manchu name is Chalafen Alin. Chalafen means longevity, and Alin means mountain. In the 20th year of the Kangxi reign, after completing his eastern inspection and sacrificial rituals, Emperor Shengzu (Kangxi) stopped here on his return journey. Local people held celebrations for the Emperor’s Birthday, so he named the mountain Shoushan (Longevity Mountain).
At the foot of the mountain lies a clear pond, which forms Shoushan Lake. As the largest headwater of the Yitong River, the lake feeds the river that flows northward across the entire town. The Yitong River has provided abundant water resources for local residents, irrigating tens of thousands of mu of fertile farmland and supporting people’s production and daily life.
Constructed in 1958 and expanded in 1966, Shoushan Reservoir dams the Yitong River at the foot of Shoushan Mountain. It is a medium-sized reservoir on the upper main stream of the Yitong River, primarily built for flood control and farmland irrigation. In 2002, a reinforcement project was carried out with an investment of 12.1 million yuan.
After renovation, the reservoir has a total storage capacity of 25.3 million cubic meters. The dam stretches 1,080 meters in length, with a top width of 5 meters and a height of 12.92 meters. The river channel is 16.3 meters long, and the drainage area covers 91.5 square kilometers. Today, it functions mainly for water storage and irrigation, while also offering tourism, vacationing, angling and recreational services.
Wetlands spread across the upper reaches of the lake. Every spring, migratory birds including grey cranes, swans and wild ducks come here to inhabit and breed. The lake is home to more than 20 fish species, such as California bass, Russian bitterling, mandarin fish, bighead carp, silver carp, common carp and grass carp, with an annual fish output of 150,000 kilograms.
Sixteen fish ponds below the dam are open to anglers, and five fish stew restaurants of different sizes around the lake serve delicious local fish dishes. Boasting authentic natural landscapes, Shoushan Lake enjoys convenient transportation, just 0.75 kilometers away from the government of Yingchengzi Town.
Fully equipped with tourist facilities, the area features over ten catering and entertainment venues. Every year, it attracts tens of thousands of tourists from Changchun, Liaoyuan, Siping, Dongfeng, Panshi and other cities for sightseeing, leisure and vacation.
