Fuyuan Teapot — Symbol of China’s Tea Capital
The giant teapot stands on the south side of China Tea Capital Square beside the Second Ring Road of the urban area.
In April 2005, the project was funded by the People’s Government of Anxi County, and constructed and carved by Haiqi Stone Carving Factory of Huian County.
The teapot is 8.18 metres high and 14.12 metres wide, while the teacup measures 1.3 metres in height and 2.1 metres in width.
The entire structure is assembled from 409 pieces of granite: 310 pieces for the teapot, 94 for the tea tray, and 5 monolithic granite teacups carved from single stone blocks.
Four large Chinese characters Treasure of Anxi, Standing for a Thousand Years are carved on the teapot body, and tea poems are inscribed respectively on the walls of the five giant teacups.
The total weight of Fuyuan Teapot reaches approximately 752 tons:
348 tons of granite (116 cubic metres),
364 tons of concrete (140 cubic metres),
40 tons of steel reinforcement,
and another 40 tons for the five teacups.
The erection of Fuyuan Teapot has created a brand-new urban landmark for Anxi.
Inscription on the Fuyuan Teapot Stele
Anxi has cultivated tea for a thousand years.
The enchanting Tieguanyin tea has won fame across five continents.
Merchants gather here, bringing prosperity to local people.
We build this giant teapot to embody the virtue of tea.
Stacking hundreds of stone blocks, we raise the monument over eight metres tall.
Construction began in the spring of the Yiyou year and was completed in early winter.
Fine tea welcomes guests; clear water flows on forever.
This fountain of happiness shall never run dry for all generations.
We record this story on the stele.
