The Cluster of Mosques
Weishan has 22 mosques. Amid rows of residential houses in towns and villages, these mosques stand with towering moon-watching minarets piercing the sky, forming a distinctive landscape of the Hui settlements in Weishan.
The main prayer hall is the most imposing building within each mosque complex. Most are built with brick and timber, capable of accommodating more than one thousand worshippers at a time. They are unparalleled in architectural shape, ornamentation and colour scheme.
In decorative arts, the mosques integrate diverse architectural styles from Central Asia, West Asia, Arabia and Turkic regions. The overall layout, ornamental craftsmanship and colour palette fully embody the cultural essence of the Hui people, achieving a perfect balance between adapting to local folk customs externally and adhering firmly to religious traditions inwardly.
