Jirentai Gorge lies 25 kilometres east of Nileke County seat. The Niqiao Highway cuts straight through the gorge, running parallel to the Kashgar River. Steep jagged peaks and craggy rocks tower on both sides, and the mountain trail winds onward, growing narrower with every step.

Riding a horse uphill here makes travellers dizzy and afraid to glance around. Some stretches have been blocked by landslides, even cutting off the narrow footpaths. Visitors have to dismount and walk on foot with the guidance of local herdsmen.

Once past this perilous section, a breathtaking view unfolds. The Qashi Mountain is covered in thick green foliage dotted with grazing cattle, horses and sheep.

Three sets of ancient rock paintings survive on the northern slope of Jirentai Gorge. Carved on the rock are vivid images of horses, cattle, sheep, camels, wild animals and human figures, serving as precious historical evidence of the ancient nomadic tribes.
