As a national A-level scenic spot, the Taklamakan Tourist Scenic Area in Karsu, Shache of Xinjiang lies 28 kilometres east of Shache County under the administration of Karsu Township. To the south is Janggiles Township of Yecheng County, to the west lies Yige'erqi Town, and to the north is Bageawat Township. The glow of sunrise and sunset is especially breathtaking. The desert sunrise is unlike that over the ocean yet equally spectacular over this vast sea of sand. The sunset over rolling sand hills outshines mountain sunsets and never fails to impress visitors.

If you venture deep into the sun-baked heart of the desert, you may chance upon mirages formed by light refracting through air layers of varying densities. You can also bury yourself in hot sand for sand therapy, which is effective in treating skin diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, vitiligo, cervical spondylosis and other ailments.
