Mudanjiang — Xinglong Temple — Site of Shangjing Longquanfu — Jingpo Lake in Winter
After breakfast, depart from Mudanjiang City and head to Xinglong Temple, one of the time-honored ancient temples in Northeast China with a history of over 1,200 years. Admire the three national treasures housed in the temple: grand stone Buddha statues, a stone lantern pillar and a stone tortoise stele base, all exquisite stone artworks left over from the Bohai Kingdom of the Tang Dynasty.
Next, visit the Site of Shangjing Longquanfu of the Bohai Kingdom, covering the museum, grand ancient ruins and the Eight-Treasure Colored Glaze Well. In winter, the vast, quiet ruins allow visitors to better perceive the vicissitudes of thousands of years of history.
After lunch, proceed to Jingpo Lake, the world’s second-largest mountain barrier lake. Appreciate the uniquely charming winter scenery of Jingpo Lake blanketed in pure white snow, with snow-laden trees set against a clear blue sky. You can have snowball fights, play in the snow and roll snowballs, lie on the pristine snow to leave body imprints, and stroll along the fully frozen lake covered in endless snow to take photos.
Then travel to the Diaoshuilou Waterfall, where the water freezes solid into magnificent ice falls amid frigid temperatures. Feast your eyes on the spectacular ice curtain hanging from the cliff and jagged snow-covered ice peaks. Beneath the ice waterfall lies an unfrozen deep pool with crystal-clear green water. The dark, steep volcanic lava cliffs surrounding the pool form a breathtaking contrast with the white snow, perfect for souvenir photos.
Finally, take the coach back to Mudanjiang City.
