Located in Xinhua Jie, the Fire-Watch Tower is a representative structure in Nanning during the period of the 1950s and 1980s. Since it was built in 1953, it played a key role in preventing and putting out fires in Nanning. However, with more and more high buildings in the developing city, the Fire-Watch Tower has lost its main function. Moreover, its brick wall has been weathered; the wood floors, windows and stairs have been decayed. In this situation all aspects of society have appealed to protecting such a historical structure. After a careful study, the cultural departments in Nanning have set about the investigation to the tower and started preserving related objects. Now the Fire-Watch Tower is renovated and protected as a key city-level protection of cultural relics.
