Fantian Temple was built in Sui Dynasty and is one of the oldest temples in Fujian. It is formerly called Xingjiao Temple and is located at the southern foot of Dalun Mountain of Tong'an. It is a famous temple located in coastal area, together with Yongquan Temple of Gushan in Fuzhou, Guanghua Temple of Putian, Kaiyuan Temple of Quanzhou and Nanshan Temple of Zhangzhou. Fantian Temple and Nanputuo Temple are famous temples in Xiamen.
