Tibetan Buddhism is the predominant religion in Nyemo County. There are altogether 22 monasteries, retreat hermitages and chapels across the county, including 6 chapels and 1 retreat hermitage. Among them are 14 monasteries for male monks, 7 nunneries, and 1 temple where both monks and nuns reside.
These religious sites belong to five major sects of Tibetan Buddhism: 10 of the Kagyu Sect, 4 of the Gelug Sect, 6 of the Nyingma Sect, 1 of the Bon Sect and 1 of the Sakya Sect.
