Etuoling, adjacent to the northern suburbs of Feicui New Town in Wuzhishan City, lies 1,000 meters from the city center, at the 200-kilometer marker along the Haikou–Sanya Middle Highway.
Its boundary scope is defined as follows: bounded on the east by the 913.0-meter contour line of Tongjia Triangle Ridge; on the west by the 557.0-meter mountain peak; on the south by the 719.5-meter summit of Triangle Ridge; and on the north by the 538-meter contour line of Hengtou Mountain. The park covers a total area of 8,066.7 hectares, including 7,866.7 hectares of natural forestland.
Two meandering mountain ranges stretch north to south on its southern side. The left range runs roughly 3,000 meters from the main ridge to Alishan Resort, while the right range extends approximately 4,000 meters from the main ridge to the Tourist Villa. The horizontal distance between the two ranges varies from 700 meters to 1,000 meters. Looking south from the peak of the main ridge, the entire Etuoling mountain range resembles the letter "U". The canyon reaches a depth of around 200 meters, and forested land across the whole mountainous zone spans roughly 160,000 mu.
The park features interwoven mountains and waters with picturesque scenery. It boasts captivating natural landscapes including virgin forests, planted woodlands, mountain streams, clear springs, rolling undulating mountain chains, as well as the Taiping Waterfall and Qingchun Ridge Waterfall.
Etuoling Forest Park is covered with extensive tropical natural and artificial forests characterized by evergreen foliage, multi-layer mixed vegetation, and uneven-aged stands. The major forest types include tropical rainforest, tropical monsoon forest and evergreen broad-leaved forest, endowing the area with abundant forest resources. The forest coverage rate stands at about 90%. More than 1,600 wild plant species across 400 families have been documented, among which there are over 700 arbor and shrub species belonging to 60 families. The flora includes over 100 terrestrial medicinal plants, 56 commercial timber species and 56 fiber plants, alongside numerous ornamental flowers and landscape trees.
Wildlife resources are equally abundant. Surveys have identified over 30 mammal species under 3 orders, 120 bird species across 30 families in 7 orders, and 40 amphibian and reptile species under 3 orders. Six rare wild animals under national first-class protection inhabit the park, namely the Hainan peacock-pheasant, Hainan partridge, water monitor, python and others. Another 16 species such as the Chinese pangolin are listed as national second-class protected animals, plus 12 wild animals protected at the provincial level.
Nestled in the hinterland of the Wuzhi Mountain range, Etuoling Forest Park has a tropical rainforest monsoon climate. It stays warm in winter and cool in summer, with cool temperatures and abundant rainfall in summer, mild and humid weather in autumn, and spring-like conditions all year round, earning it the reputation of a "natural air conditioner".
Though Etuoling lacks the soaring, grand and world-famous stature of Huangshan Mountain, Emei Mountain or Mount Tai, climbing its peaks delivers an unforgettable experience: the field of vision stretches boundlessly to broaden one’s mind; rolling mountain ridges surge like an immense green ocean; the entire Feicui New Town unfolds fully before your eyes; mist and clouds drift and surge like billowing waves. The landscape combines majestic grandeur and delicate beauty, offering endless stunning vistas and a one-of-a-kind charm. It is an ideal destination to develop hiking, mountain sightseeing, scenic driving and other tourism programs.
Driving along the winding mountain roads deep into the woodland, visitors can admire a rich variety of rare trees while listening to the chirping of birds and cicada songs, creating a uniquely tranquil and delightful atmosphere
