Shuangfeng Lake

Shuangfeng Lake is located on the middle reaches of the Huangni River at the northern foot of the Zhangguangcai Ridge, 9 kilometres south of Fangzheng County seat. It is a medium-sized reservoir integrating irrigation, tourism and diversified business operations.

Shuangfeng Lake ranks among the earliest scenic spots developed in Fangzheng County. It is famous not only for its beautiful legend, but more importantly for its picturesque mountains and clear waters. Every summer, the imposing Shuangfeng Mountain is perfectly mirrored on the glassy lake surface. When the morning breeze sweeps across the water, the mountain reflections ripple, just like two phoenixes waking up at dawn. Veiled in thin mist, they seem to be dressing carefully in front of a precious mirror. As the red sun rises amid shimmering rays, the two peaks look exactly like golden phoenixes dancing gracefully in colourful plumage.

Shuangfeng Lake is a popular tourist resort and also home to the national-level original breeding farm for silver crucian carp. The local silver crucian carp features a small head, plump body and tender flesh. Both Chinese and foreign visitors speak highly of this delicacy. Steamed silver crucian carp has been listed as one of the Six Famous Dishes of Fangzheng.

Renovation work was carried out on Shuangfeng Lake in 2004. At present, the lake covers an area of 4.069 million square metres with a catchment area of 175 square kilometres and a maximum storage capacity of 41.78 million cubic metres. The newly reconstructed main dam stretches 974 metres long and 6.5 metres wide. Its cement pavement is smooth as a mirror. Neat street lamps have been newly installed on both sides, forming a gorgeous new sight around the lake.
