Wulanmulun Grassland

Wulanmulun Grassland is located in Honghe Town, Qingshuihe County, Hohhot. Its name translates from Mongolian as "Red River". Covering a total area of nearly 6.6 million square metres, the grassland sits at an average altitude of over 1,100 metres with an annual average temperature of 7°C. It boasts a distinctive climate featuring cool summers, with an extreme maximum temperature of 32°C. The average annual rainfall reaches 430 millimetres, and vegetation coverage exceeds 85%.

Benefiting from a unique geographical location, the grassland is 110 kilometres north of Hohhot, 140 kilometres west of Ordos and 120 kilometres south of Xinzhou in Shanxi Province. It serves as a key stop on the golden cross-provincial tourist route linking Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. National Highway 209 runs along the western edge of the scenic area, granting highly convenient transportation access.

Developed and funded by Inner Mongolia Libaijia Tourism Development Co., Ltd., the entire project has a total investment of 80 million yuan and is constructed in three phases. Phase I has been fully completed.

The Master Plan for Wulanmulun Grassland harmoniously integrates environmental protection, ecological conservation and tourism development. The core zone is laid out in the shape of the map of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Accommodation and catering areas consist of yurts named after major banners from each league and city across the region, linked by eco-friendly footpaths to form geographic segments representing every league and city. Standing on the highest point of the grassland to overlook the grassland cultural complex, visitors will see a miniature replica of Inner Mongolia, fully showcasing the region’s vast territory and abundant resources.

Four functional zones are planned around the core area: the Grassland Ecological Reserve, the Primitive Mongolian Lifestyle Exhibition Zone, the Mongol-Yuan Cultural Zone and the Grassland Club. Inner Mongolia Libaijia Tourism Development Co., Ltd. will strictly follow the master plan and implement its phased construction scheme, adhering to the principle of simultaneous tourism development and ecological preservation.

Wulanmulun Grassland provides deluxe yurts, cosy standard guest rooms, private dining booths of various sizes and a grand golden-topped main yurt hall. It can host small, medium and large conferences, with seating for more than 200 diners at maximum capacity. After meals, guests may enjoy authentic Mongolian cultural performances staged by the Wulanmulun Art Troupe. Deluxe yurt suites are equipped with standard beds and private bathrooms, allowing guests to experience the daily life of nomadic peoples and witness the perfect fusion of ancient nomadic traditions and modern comfort.

Visitors can ride swift thoroughbred horses galloping across the steppe. Under the glow of bonfires, elegant Mongolian folk dances including the Bowl Dance and Chopstick Dance are performed, showcasing the grace and beauty of Mongolian choreography. Amid warm toasting songs and melodious long-tune Mongolian folk music, guests can savour mellow mare’s milk wine and authentic award-winning hand-boiled lamb. The grand whole roasted lamb ceremony recreates the noble lifestyle of Mongolian aristocrats from the Yuan Dynasty during dining. Mongolian maidens dressed in resplendent traditional costumes serve rich milk tea and exquisite dairy treats, offering an immersive glimpse into nomadic civilisation.
