Inner Mongolia Aowei Mongol-Yuan Horse Culture Ecotourism Area

Located in Qiganqi Village, Shengle Town, Horinger County, Inner Mongolia Aowei Mongol-Yuan Horse Culture Ecotourism Area is a national 3A-level scenic spot covering 1,542 mu. It fully integrates the time-honored Mongol-Yuan horse culture with modern technology. Newly built facilities include a racecourse with seating for 20,000 spectators, a multi-functional performance hall hosting indoor equestrian shows, Mongolian song and dance galas, Russian grand circuses and indoor polo, a large children’s amusement park, an indoor greenhouse park and a ski resort, as well as a horse culture museum. Supporting facilities have also been upgraded and completed, such as a harness processing factory, horse stables, horse breeding base, equestrian school, equestrian club and Mongol-Yuan ecological restaurant. Premium forage grass has been introduced to improve pasture quality. The park delivers high-standard, international professional services including equestrian events, horse breeding, equestrian performances, riding lessons, ecotourism, agricultural fruit picking and leisure vacations, catering to diverse demands of horse culture enthusiasts from across the country and around the globe. It aims to develop into a sightseeing and leisure resort that embodies grassland culture and bears unique northern frontier features.
In Inner Mongolia of China, the Mongolian people share an inseparable bond with Mongolian horses. The rise and fall of horses have always been intertwined with the fortunes of the Mongolian nation. Nomadic herdsmen regard fine horses as their most loyal companions, indispensable for travel, warfare and herding. Horses facilitated communication among ethnic groups and enabled the Mongolians to live a nomadic life roaming wherever water and grass abound.
Every Inner Mongolian living away from home has likely encountered the same questions: whether they live in yurts and ride horses as their main means of transport. Such inquiries reveal outsiders’ sincere admiration and longing for Inner Mongolia. Its vast grasslands, simple folk customs and profound heritage of Mongol-Yuan horse culture make it a dream destination for visitors from afar.
Ethnic costumes essential to nomadic life such as Mongolian robes and leather boots, horse gear including saddles and lasso poles, and delicacies like mare’s milk wine have gradually formed a distinctive ethnic civilization — the Horseback Culture. Hence the Mongolians are known as “the nation on horseback”, and Mongol-Yuan horse culture carries abundant underlying cultural connotations.
On grasslands across Inner Mongolia, especially in summer, one can frequently see free-spirited herdsmen cracking whips and galloping across the steppe. At Aowei Mongol-Yuan Horse Culture Ecotourism Area in Qiganqi Village, Shengle Town, Horinger County, Hohhot, visitors can enjoy Russian grand circus performances and indoor equestrian shows, go horse riding, and even purchase their ideal horses to board in the park’s stables, fulfilling their dream of owning a horse.
Visitors may take full hands-on care of horses if they wish: brushing, saddling, riding and washing the horses, as well as routine grooming and tidying work. They can even maintain saddles and riding equipment by themselves, with professional instructors providing formal riding training.
“In the future, the park will construct a multi-functional performance hall for indoor equestrian shows, Mongolian song and dance, Russian grand circus and indoor polo, alongside a large children’s playground, indoor greenhouse park, ski resort, horse culture museum, horse cultural innovation center, harness factory, stables, breeding base, equestrian school, equestrian club and Mongol-Yuan ecological restaurant. Beyond hosting competitions, riding training and equestrian performances, we will carry out horse breeding, develop ecotourism, agricultural picking and leisure getaways to fully satisfy horse culture lovers nationwide and worldwide. We are determined to build Aowei into a well-known brand of the autonomous region’s horse culture industry.”
