Kengping Covered Bridge in Shiyang

The bridge is situated in Kengping Natural Village, Shiyang Village, Tingping Township, Minhou County. It was constructed in the 13th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1748). A single-span wooden arch covered bridge, it stretches from northeast to southwest.

It measures 26.1 metres in total length, 6.38 metres in width, and the covered gallery stands 3.6 metres high. The abutments on both banks are built of layered stone slabs. Above them rises a wooden arch framework interlocked with round fir logs. Round timbers are laid lengthwise atop the arch as girders, over which planks are laid crosswise to form the bridge deck.

The covered gallery features a hip-and-gable roof supported by a column-and-tie wooden frame. It spans nine bays in width and four columns in depth. Wooden benches and vertical lattice railings line both sides of the gallery, shielded externally by weatherproof boards. A shrine dedicated to the Dark Lord of the Northern Heaven is installed on the west side of the central bay. Hanging from the beam on the east side is a wooden plaque inscribed with the names of donors from Panping Township and surrounding villages.

As one of the rare surviving wooden arch covered bridges, this structure boasts high scientific research value.
