Jiaoxi Bridge of Tingping

Jiaoxi Bridge stands in Jiaoxi Village, Tingping Township, Minhou County. It was built in the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930) and renovated in 1951. As a single-span wooden arch covered bridge, it runs east-west.

It has a total length of 27.3 metres, a width of 4.33 metres, a clear span of 9.2 metres, and a height of roughly 10 metres above the stream bed. Its abutments are constructed of stacked stone slabs. Three sections of round fir logs interlock to form an eight-shaped wooden arch above the abutments. Lengthwise round timbers are laid on the arch as girders, topped with wooden planks and bricks to form the bridge deck.

The covered gallery features a hip-and-gable roof with a column-and-tie wooden frame, spanning nine bays in width and four columns in depth. Long wooden benches and railings line both sides, sheltered by external rain-shielding boards. A shrine enshrining the Dark Lord of the Northern Heaven is placed in the central bay.

Being one of the rare extant wooden arch covered bridges, the bridge possesses high scientific research value.
