Houhuayuan Village is located in the central part of the East Peninsula of Nan'ao County, on the northern side of Guolaoshan, the main peak of the island, at an altitude ranging from 350 to 450 metres. The area is shrouded in mist all year round with a distinct subtropical maritime climate and fresh clean air.
The village has a total of 69 households and a current population of 287 residents. It has one Party Branch and one Village Committee with complete leadership teams, including four staff members holding concurrent positions in both committees and 15 Party members.
The village comprises four natural hamlets: Houhuayuan, Niutou Ridge, Guolaoshan and Dalan Kou. The hamlets are separated by mountain trails of around 1.5 kilometres. The village boasts 122.98 mu of cultivated land and 4,100 mu of mountainous land, with a forest coverage rate exceeding 80%, among which 2,100 mu of mountain land is available for development.
In 2009, the annual per capita income of villagers stood at 3,600 yuan, and the net collective income of the village reached 39,000 yuan. The village-to-village connectivity project has been fully completed.
