Bacen Waterfall

On Mount Bacen behind Bacen Village, Lianzao Hamlet, Yangwan Township, a small river plunges down the right slope halfway up the mountainside. With a vertical drop of more than 100 meters, it forms a magnificent waterfall. It was formerly known as Pearl-Spraying Cliff, and locally called Gengda Waterfall.

During the rainy season, clear torrents rush down from the upper riverbed and pound against two huge rock ledges. Each ledge is about 8 to 9 meters high and 3 to 5 meters thick at the center. The water flows over the rocks at around 8 meters per second. Hydrological experts estimate each rock weighs nearly 30 tons. When the plunging current hits the massive stones, sprays burst outward for more than ten meters. From afar, the waterfall looks like two huge curtains hanging between mountains; up close, it resembles a fierce dragon spitting out pearls. The roaring crash of the falling water can be heard five li away and drowns out people’s conversations nearby.

In the rainy season, visitors standing on National Highway 324 can gaze toward Mount Bacen and watch a stream tumble down the hundred-meter cliff, just like the Milky Way pouring down from the sky. Countless silvery sprays sparkle with gorgeous rainbow hues under the sunshine. The roaring current sounds like rapid, stirring music, bold and soul-stirring. Standing at Pearl-Spraying Cliff, visitors are instantly refreshed and cannot help but marvel at the breathtaking scenery.
