The Middle Wudang — Tianzhu Mountain Scenic Area lies 25 kilometres west of the seat of Changyang Tujia Autonomous County in Yichang, Hubei Province. Nestled within a national forest park and national geopark on the north bank of the Qingjiang River, it adjoins the 5A-level Qingjiang Gallery Scenic Area, with a peak altitude of 1,445 metres. Boasting graceful, exotic, precipitous and lofty scenery, it ranks among the Thirty-Six Grotto Heavens and Seventy-Two Blessed Lands of Taoism.

The mountain range rises majestically like a giant writing brush piercing the sky. Seen from afar, the solitary peak towers abruptly above the ground. Up close, three peaks vie for beauty, and two stone bridges arch like rainbows. Natural wonders such as the Immortal Viewing Platform, Divine Frog Rock, Yin-Yang Well and Magic Spring are masterpieces of nature. Standing atop Tianzhu Mountain amid drifting clouds, you can overlook countless ridges and valleys surrounded by rolling mist-shrouded hills. The ancient architectural complex is magnificent, featuring towering palaces, steep stone staircases and upturned eaves that exude classic antiquity. Taoist temples were first built here in the Tang Dynasty more than 1,300 years ago. For centuries, morning bells and evening drums have echoed through the mountain amid curling incense, attracting a constant stream of Taoist practitioners and tourists who linger unwilling to leave. Shining together with Wudang Mountain in northern Hubei from north to south, it is a famous sacred Taoist mountain in southwestern Hubei.

Far away from urban hustle and bustle, the scenic area boasts luxuriant vegetation, sound ecological conditions and serene surroundings. Known as a natural oxygen bar, it is an ideal summer retreat.
