Qingxu County is located in the central part of Shanxi Province, serving as the southern gateway to Taiyuan, the provincial capital. National Highways 208 and 307, the Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway, and the under-construction Taiyuan-Zhongwei-Yinchuan Railway run through the county, endowing it with convenient transportation, fertile land, and a dense network of water systems and lakes. Covering a total area of 609 square kilometers, the county administers 4 towns, 5 townships, 1 sub-district office, 192 administrative villages, and 6 urban communities, with a permanent population of 340,000. It enjoys the reputation of being a Famous Cultural City, Capital of Vinegar, and Hometown of Grapes太原市清徐县人民政府.
Known as Gengyang in ancient times, Qingxu was first established during the Spring and Autumn Period. With a history of over 2,500 years, it is the hometown of Luo Guanzhong, the author of the classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Yaocheng Village was once the capital of Emperor Yao, earning it the title of China’s First Ancient Capital. Qingxu was also an important part of the Shanxi Merchants culture, and well-preserved ancient residences and villages of the Shanxi Merchants can still be found in Xugou, Dachang, Jiazhao, and other areas. The county has 2 national-level, 4 provincial-level, and 6 municipal-level cultural relics protection units. Among them, the national-level protected sites, Hufu Temple and Qingyuan Confucian Temple, are renowned nationwide, while the provincial-level protected sites, Xiangyan Temple and Thousand-Buddha Cave, represent Buddhist grotto art in northern China太原市清徐县人民政府. Qingxu is also a Hometown of Chinese Folk Art, and the Xugou Back Iron Rod art, praised as "aerial dance, flowing acrobatics, and wordless drama," is a provincial intangible cultural heritage.
Qingxu is known as the Hometown of Chinese Grapes. "Grapes have grown in Qingxu since the Han Dynasty." With a long history of grape cultivation, the local Longan Grapes feature thin skin, sweet taste, and rich nutrients, making them ideal for fresh consumption and winemaking. Qingxu was named the Hometown of Chinese Grapes by the China Committee for the Evaluation of Specialty Towns太原市清徐县人民政府. The county has 50,000 mu of vineyards and over 160 grape varieties, ranking it among China’s four traditional major grape-producing regions. Located in the Baishi Valley mountainous area, Pufeng Villa boasts an excellent ecological environment and vineyards stretching across the hills, attracting countless visitors. It has become a national-level agricultural eco-tourism demonstration site. Additionally, Qingxu hosts multiple grape processing enterprises, producing 800,000 kilograms of wine and grape beverages annually, and processing 2.5 million kilograms of grapes.
Qingxu is also called the Vinegar Capital of China. "Since ancient times, Shanxi has been famous for vinegar brewing, and its origin traces back to Qingxu." As the authentic birthplace of Shanxi Mature Vinegar, Qingxu has a time-honored vinegar-making history, and its traditional brewing technique is among China’s first batch of national intangible cultural heritages. Qingxu Mature Vinegar is characterized by a pure and mild sour taste, mellow flavor, subtle sweetness, and a long aftertaste, earning it the title of the World’s Best Vinegar. It won the First Prize for Quality Products at the 1924 Panama International Exposition. Currently, there are over 60 varieties in six series: mature vinegar, aged vinegar, smoked vinegar, white vinegar, health vinegar, and flavored vinegar. As China’s largest production base for mature vinegar, Qingxu was named the Hometown of Chinese Aged Vinegar by the China Committee for the Evaluation of Specialty Towns.
In recent years, leveraging its unique advantages in resources, location, and culture, Qingxu has accelerated economic development, forming a new county economic structure centered on six major industries: clean energy, green food, high-tech, precision casting, new building materials, and eco-tourism. The county supplies over half of Taiyuan’s fresh non-staple foods such as vegetables, fruits, eggs, milk, and meat, serving as the provincial capital’s non-staple food base. Its coal-coking and heating radiator industries hold significant positions nationwide. Party and state leaders including Jiang Zemin, Jiang Chunyun, Zou Jiahua, Zeng Peiyan, and Zhang Dejiang have visited Qingxu successively太原市清徐县人民政府.
