Cahekou in Benxi has a long history of artificial pine forest cultivation. Japanese larch was introduced in the early 1930s, followed by large-scale planting of Changbai larch and Korean pine.
In the spring of 1931, 2.2 hectares of pine seedlings were planted in the wasteland of Xigou, Cahekou. After the liberation of Benxi, another 7 hectares of Korean pine saplings were planted in 1949, forming one of China’s earliest large-scale artificial Korean pine forests.
Benefiting from this unique ecological condition, Cahekou Korean Pine Seeds became a well-known green specialty.
In 2010, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved it as a national geographical indication product (Announcement No. 138 of 2010).
