Ciping sits in a small mountain basin amid towering peaks and served as the core base of the Jinggangshan revolutionary struggle. It is the main entry point for all Jinggangshan tours, home to the Revolutionary Museum and Martyrs Memorial Tower. Paved roads connect Ciping to all revolutionary memorial sites and major scenic spots.
The five strategic mountain passes, famed as revolutionary battlefields, also feature stunning natural landscapes, accessible via the Five Passes Highway from Ciping. Huangyangjie is the most worthwhile among them. Standing at 1,438 meters above sea level, it commands a lofty overlook over the mountain pass with highly perilous terrain, earning locals the nickname "Sky-Scraping Ridge".
Panoramic views unfold here: rolling layered peaks stretch endlessly beneath surging white clouds resembling a boundless ocean. Remnants of old pass fortifications and mountain trails remain faintly visible, while Red Army barracks stand well-preserved. A Monument to the Victory of the Huangyangjie Defense Battle now stands on the site, inscribed with calligraphy by Zhu De. The reverse side bears Mao Zedong’s ci poem Xijiang Moon · Jinggangshan. A marble screen before the monument bears three gilded characters: "Huangyangjie".
