Time: Lunar March 3 (usually mid-April, national intangible cultural heritage)
Core venue: Tianya Haijiao, Yucai Ecological Zone, Binlang Ethnic Village
Origin: The most sacred traditional festival for Li and Miao minorities, to worship ancestors, celebrate harvest and match young lovers.
Must-see highlights:
- Bamboo Pole Dance (Da Chai Wu): Tourists can join locals stepping through rhythmic bamboo poles.
- Ethnic singing contests, Li brocade & Miao embroidery craft competitions, dragon boat races, and traditional sports: archery, top-spinning, pole climbing, bullfighting.
- Tasting five-color glutinous rice, wild mountain wine, Li-style grilled fish and tropical ethnic snacks at food bazaars.
