Core ingredients include potatoes, kelp knots, dried tofu sheets, meatballs, fish balls, cabbage, wide vermicelli, garland chrysanthemum, Chinese cabbage, starch jelly, fried tofu puffs, crab sticks and mushrooms. Starting in 2009, noodles or rice noodles became optional add-ons. Its raw materials resemble spicy hot pot, but after boiling, all water is drained. The ingredients are tossed with salt, black vinegar, sugar, crushed peanuts, chili, cumin, sesame oil and other seasonings before serving.
Invented by Fushun locals based on introduced spicy hot pot culture, it enjoys massive popularity. Flavors range from sweet-sour to numbing-spicy, fully customizable to personal taste, with additional seasonings such as clover powder available.
