1. Yalu River Broken Bridge
Dandong’s iconic symbol and top tourist spot.
Built in 1909, the iron bridge was bombed and partially destroyed during the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. Clear bullet holes and war scars remain on the steel frame. Visitors can walk halfway across the river to stare directly at Sinuiju, North Korea, right across the water. Its red neon lighting creates stunning night views reflecting on the Yalu River.
2. Memorial Hall of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea
China’s only comprehensive museum dedicated to this war, completely free to visit (reservation required, closed every Monday).
It houses over 20,000 historical relics, lifelike war sculptures and a huge 360-degree panoramic oil painting recreating battlefield scenes. The 53-meter victory monument stands outside, recording the heroic deeds of volunteer soldiers.
3. Hushan Great Wall
The easternmost starting point of the entire Great Wall of China.
Stroll along the rugged stone ramparts to reach the landmark spot called “One Step to North Korea”. You can overlook border farmlands, villages and the winding Yalu River valley. The mountain landscape is especially gorgeous in spring and autumn.
4. Yalu River Cruise
A classic border experience matching the Broken Bridge.
The 30–60 minute boat trip sails along the China-North Korea borderline. You will get close-up views of North Korean riverside buildings, islands and river guards, capturing rare cross-border river scenery.
5. Andong Old Street
A retro pedestrian street full of Republican-era architecture, the best place to taste local food.
It gathers authentic Korean-style snacks, seafood, cold noodles, fried corn noodles and handmade glutinous rice cakes. Vintage shops, old signboards and lanterns make it ideal for casual photos and slow food tours.
6. Hekou Scenic Area
A 4A-level riverside scenic spot known as “Jiangnan beyond the Great Wall”.
It features the Hekou Broken Bridge (where Marshal Peng Dehuai crossed into Korea), vast peach blossom forests blooming every April, Changhe Island and mountain villas. It is perfect for spring flower viewing and countryside self-driving trips.
7. Jinjiangshan Park
A free urban mountain park with a panoramic overlook platform.
Climb the gentle hills to enjoy a full view of downtown Dandong, the Yalu River and distant North Korean mountains. It is quiet and suitable for morning walks or sunset sightseeing.
8. Zhouwo Music Town (Short drive from downtown)
A characteristic music village famous for musical instrument manufacturing. It has music bars, guitar culture exhibitions and regular music festivals, with strong artistic vibes.
Quick travel tip
All core city attractions (Broken Bridge, memorial hall, river park, Andong Old Street) are within walking distance along the riverside; Hushan Great Wall and Hekou Scenic Area are better visited by self-driving or chartered car.
