The karst landforms here are rare in Northeast China, and the clustered caves make it even more distinctive. The Xibeitian Cave, closest to the northern highway, sits atop a high mountain, surrounded by extensive fruit orchards at its entrance. At present, tourists can explore around 500 meters deep into the cave. Inside, stalactites come in varied shapes and heights. Some caverns are spacious with an open view like an exposed sky, featuring terraced viewing platforms; some narrow passages only allow one person to pass, winding deep into the mountains.
The North Mountain South Cave was discovered by local villagers during stone quarrying. A large number of artificially processed animal bone fossils and traces of ancient fire use were unearthed here. Experts have verified it as a Paleolithic site, which pushes forward the timeline of early human habitation in the Changbai Mountain area by 200,000 years. In May 2007, it was listed as a Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the People's Government of Jilin Province.
