Xinfeng (meaning "people’s trust and abundant harvests") was established in 682 AD (Tang Dynasty). It lies upstream of the Ganjiang River (middle reaches of the Taojiang River, a Gongjiang tributary), with a south-to-north slope. The Dayuling and Jiulian Mountains (Nanling Range) extend into its southwest, surrounded by mountains with a flat center. It borders Anyuan to the east, Longnan/Dingnan/Quannan to the south, Nanxiong (Guangdong) to the west, Dayu to the northwest, and Nankang/Ganxian to the north. Known as "China’s Navel Orange Hometown," "China’s Straw Mushroom Hometown," and "National Ecological Demonstration County," its county seat is called "Little Nanjing"—a "Sanitary and Civilized County of Jiangxi." Hakka is widely spoken.
