West Dongting Lake
West Dongting Lake National Urban Wetland Park is situated in the eastern part of Hanshou County, Hunan Province. Formed by the confluence of the Yuanjiang and Lishui rivers, it features typical marsh landforms: vast waters when flooded, and scattered sandbars when the water recedes.
Stretching to distant mountains and connecting with the Yangtze River, the lake boasts boundless blue waves. It is famous for its varied scenery, fertile land and abundant resources. Winding waterways, scattered hills, inner lakes and islets form a picturesque landscape dotted with fishing boats, green reeds, leaping fish and flying gulls and egrets.
The scenery changes with seasons and hours. When cold winds stir the waves, the lake looks like an endless snowfield reminiscent of northern China. At sunset, the ripples glow golden, creating a view comparable to watching the sunrise on Mount Tai.
A natural labyrinth, the wetland features expansive waters, sandbars and diverse water inlets. It is abundant in reeds, fish and rice, and also home to a well-known aerial shooting range over water.
