China Jurassic Park
Also known as the National Petrified Wood Geopark, the China Jurassic Park is situated 4 kilometers southeast of Mingxing Town, Shehong County, Sichuan Province. It is 4 kilometers away from the Longsheng Exit of the Daying section on the Chengdu-Nanchong Expressway and 15 kilometers from China's Dead Sea, with a planned area of 12 square kilometers.
The core geological relic zone of the geopark covers about 3 square kilometers. It boasts a rare cluster of 512 petrified wood fossils in southwest China. The park was awarded the title of International Top-tier Tourist Attraction at the Boao Summit for Global Tourism Elites held during the Boao Forum for Asia.
Longfeng Gorge within the site was successively approved as a provincial and national geopark, a national popular science education base and an AAAA-level scenic area in 2005. The official opening ceremony of China Jurassic Park was held on December 18, 2009, and the 8th International Jurassic Congress was hosted here in 2010.
Thanks to its unique landforms, abundant paleontological fossils, lush natural vegetation and time-honored cultural landscapes, the gorge is being developed into a first-class national geopark in Asia. With further construction, it will surely grow into a world-renowned scenic resort.
