This is a traditional local variety of Guigang with a cultivation history of over 300 years. The plant grows 180 to 220 centimeters tall. The main rhizome stretches 90 to 120 centimeters, consisting of 5 to 8 nodes with a diameter of 6 to 8 centimeters, and usually bears 3 to 5 branch rhizomes. The total weight of a main rhizome plus its branches ranges from 2.5 to 4 kilograms.
The lotus root has a yellowish-white skin, slightly oblate and evenly shaped internodes with a longitudinal groove. The plant thrives in fertile clay soil in shallow ponds and tolerates heavy fertilization. The harvested lotus roots are thick and firm with dense texture and high starch content. Its starch yield is 7.54%, dry matter content 19.36% and soluble solids content 8.13%. When cooked, it turns soft and starchy with no fibrous residue, ranking as top-grade produce.
The whole growth cycle lasts 200 to 250 days. Seed rhizomes are planted in early March. Tender lotus roots are harvested in July with a yield of around 750 kilograms per mu, while mature roots are gathered from November to December, yielding 1,500 to 2,000 kilograms per mu.
