Qinhuangdao City（秦皇岛市）

Nickname: City of Port, Back Garden of Beijing & Tianjin, Summer Capital of China

Location: Northeast Hebei Province, China; borders Bohai Sea to the south, Yanshan Mountains to the north, Liaoning to the east, and Beijing & Tianjin to the west秦皇岛市人民政府.

Area: 7,802 km² (land) + 1,805 km² (sea)秦皇岛市人民政府

Population: 3.11 million (2024)

Motto: A historic coastal city where the Great Wall meets the sea.

1. Why the Name?

In 215 BC, Emperor Qin Shi Huang (the first emperor of China) visited here, sent people into the sea to seek immortals, and carved Jieshi Inscription. The city was named Qinhuangdao (Qin Emperor’s Island) — the only Chinese city named after an emperor秦皇岛市人民政府.
