Intra-city Transportation in Wuhan
Taxis
The starting fare for taxis in Wuhan is 3 yuan for the first kilometer. The fare calculation adopts a special multi-stage pricing system.
For trips within 3 kilometers:
- 1 km – 1.5 km: 4 yuan
- 1.5 km – 2 km: 5 yuan
- 2 km – 2.3 km: 6 yuan
- 2.3 km – 2.7 km: 7 yuan
- 2.7 km – 3 km: 8 yuan
For distances exceeding 3 kilometers: 1.4 yuan per kilometer.
For distances over 10 kilometers: 2.1 yuan per kilometer (including a 50% return trip surcharge).
In addition, a 0.5-yuan fuel surcharge is charged per ride. All taxis are equipped with tax-controlled printing meters.

Buses
Hankou, Hanyang and Wuchang are connected by the Yangtze River Bridge, Second Yangtze Bridge, as well as Jianghan Bridge, Second Jianghan Bridge, Third Jianghan Bridge and Fourth Jianghan Bridge, greatly facilitating travel between the three districts.
Special tourist bus routes are also in service, covering most major scenic spots. They are an economical choice, though the journey takes longer due to frequent stops. Tourist Route No.1 is highly recommended, which reaches the majority of tourist attractions in Wuhan.
The condition of city buses has improved remarkably in recent years. A large number of new air-conditioned buses and double-decker sightseeing buses have been put into operation. Bus fares are affordable: 1.2 yuan for regular buses and 2 yuan for air-conditioned buses. Further discounts are available for passengers using public transport cards.
Ferry
Ferries play an important role in Wuhan's urban transportation. Current ferry routes include:
- Qingchuan ↔ Yellow Crane Tower
- Wuhan Customs House ↔ Zhonghua Road
- Dragon King Temple ↔ Hanyang Gate (regular service during morning and evening rush hours; sightseeing service from 9:00 to 16:00)
- Qingshan ↔ Tianxingzhou
- Wangjia Lane ↔ Zengjia Lane
Fare for regular ferry lines: 1 yuan per person, 1 yuan per bicycle.
Light Rail
At present, only Light Rail Line 1 is operational in Wuhan. It runs across Hankou District from Wujiashan in the west to Dijiao in the east, with a total length of 28.87 km and 26 stations. Currently, only the section between Zongguan and Huangpu Road (10 stations in total) is open to traffic.
Fares are low: 1.5 yuan for rides within 6 stops, and 2 yuan for the whole line.
- First train: 6:30; Last train: 21:30 (for Zongguan and Huangpu Road stations)
- Train interval: 9 minutes during rush hours, 14 minutes at other times
- Total travel time for the open section: 15 to 20 minutes
