The drive from Beijing to Bashang generally takes about 5 hours. The route has few intersections but many mountain roads. Along the way, you can enjoy the scenic river valleys in the Huairou mountain area, which offers a unique experience.

Start driving from Sanyuanqiao and travel 48 kilometers to Miaocheng Overpass in Huairou District. Continue straight for another 3 kilometers to Huairou Open Roundabout — turn right off the overpass if heading to Huairou County Town. At the roundabout, turn left (go straight for Miyun) and drive 1 kilometer. At the T-junction, turn right and proceed along the Beijing-Tang Road for 14 kilometers to the turnoff for Qinglong Gorge, where the mountain road section begins.

Drive 8 kilometers further to Yougu Shentan (Valley Divine Pool), where a parking lot and restrooms are available on the left side of the road. At the 89-kilometer mark, you will reach an intersection. Keep straight (turn right for Sihetang) for 3.8 kilometers to the Y-junction at Liulimiao. Turn right (turn left for Qifengcha) and drive 17.4 kilometers to Tanghekou Intersection.

Make a right turn here (go straight for Tanghekou Town, turn left for Baoshan Temple). Pass the Sinopec Tanghekou Gas Station and continue 13.7 kilometers to the Y-junction at Changshaoying. Turn left (go straight for Luanping) and travel 20 kilometers to Labagoumen Town. An intersection in the town leads to Labagoumen Forest Park.

Drive straight through Labagoumen Town, cross the Yunwu Mountain Pass (you may stop here for a short break), then descend the mountain slowly. At the 186-kilometer mark, you arrive at the southern entrance of Fengning County Town. Turn left (turn right for Baiyun Ancient Cave) and drive through the county town for 8 kilometers to reach another Y-junction.

Turn right (turn left for Baicao) and go 8 kilometers past Tuchengzi Town to a T-junction. Turn left (go straight for Weichang) and drive 12 kilometers to Lama Mountain Hanging Temple and Glacial Pothole Park. Continue straight, and you will start climbing a mountain at the 246-kilometer mark (the climb stretches about 10 kilometers). From the mountain top, it is roughly 13 kilometers to Caoyuanfeng Farmstay, passing Huabai Resort and Shenlong Lake Resort along the way.

Keep going until you reach Datan Town — this is where Bashang Grassland is located
