The Coconut Grand View Garden is located in “the coconut village of China” ---- Wenchang City, Hainan Province. It is near to the famous scenic spot of Hainan ---- Dongjiao Coconut Forest. The Coconut Grand View Garden was rebuilt on the basis of the coconut germplasm resource garden of the Coconut Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, Ministry of Agriculture. The garden was first built in 1980. It covers an area of 54.4 hectares, which is an ecological scenic spot with the characteristic of rich coconut culture and integrated with scientific research, popular science education, tourism and vacation amusement.

More than 200 palm plants and more than 130 plant species of Hainan characteristics as well as 17 coconut varieties from around the world have been collected in the garden. At present, it is the garden with the most palm plant species in China. The garden fully exhibits coconut culture contents such as coconut food culture, coconut product culture, coconut history culture and coconut spirit culture. Moreover, leisure and recreational items including delicious coconut fruits, monkey performance of picking coconut, pigeon feeding, fishing and barbecue are provided here. In the garden, the coconut forests are verdant, the flowers are flourishing, and the birds sing, which makes people relaxed and happy. Using the garden as a platform, the Coconut Research Institute undertakes several tens of scientific research projects of the national level, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Science and Technology, Hainan Province and international level, and has made many scientific achievements, and has made positive contribution to the development of Chinese coconut industry and the poverty alleviation of the farmers in the coconut areas.
